Once you have configured a virtual machine, you can move the virtual machine to a
different host, datastore, or both. The migration seamlessly moves your virtual
machine to a new set of resources without downtime.
Attention: The
following steps have been validated on vSphere Client v6.7.0.
Before you begin
Before proceeding to migrate virtual machines using vMotion, ensure that the following are met:
Virtual machine requirements:
- The virtual machine that you are moving must not have connections to a virtual device, such as a CD drive or floppy drive.
- The virtual machine that you are moving must not have connections to internal vSwitch.
- The virtual machine that you are moving must not have CPU affinity configured.
Host machine requirements:
- The host that the virtual machine will be moved to must have a Gigabit ethernet connection.
- The host that the virtual machine will be moved to must have access to the same physical networks as the virtual machine.
