In the Monitoring section, you can configure various settings related to subnet monitoring, SNMP traps, and service monitoring.
Subnet monitoring
Configure subnet monitoring with the following settings:
- Enable subnet monitoring
- When enabled, the system monitors the IPv4 free addresses in DHCP address
pools and subnets, and performs an action if the number of free addresses
drops below a user-definable threshold. However, IPv6 addresses are excluded
from subnet monitoring. For further configuration, refer to Subnet monitoring events.Note: The global subnet monitoring setting can be overridden for individual subnets by changing the setting explicitly for the subnet. Refer to Setting subnet monitoring for instructions on how to change monitoring settings for individual subnets. If you enable subnet monitoring, you need to specify the following information:
- SMTP server: The mail server from which notification emails will be sent when the number of addresses goes below a certain threshold.
- Mail from: The email address from which notification emails will be sent when the number of addresses goes below a certain threshold.
Select Set default monitor to make this the default monitor.
SNMP traps
If you want to enable the sending of SNMP traps, configure the following settings:
- Enable sending SNMP traps
- When enabled, the system will send SNMP traps when certain events occur,
including
- When the number of free IP addresses in monitored subnets drops below a user-definable threshold.
- When a log event of type Error or Notice occurs. Refer to Logging for more information on log events.
When you enable the sending of SNMP traps, you must provide additional information:
-
- Manager name
- Enter the hostname of the computer that should receive the SNMP traps.
-
- Manager port
- Enter the port number the Manager uses for the SNMP traps.
-
- Community
- Enter the community string (password) to use for the SNMP traps.
Service monitoring
Use the following settings to configure service monitoring:When selected, the monitoring tool monitors the DNS and/or DHCP services on their respective servers. Enter an appropriate interval (in minutes) for monitoring servers.
- Monitor that DNS is running on the managed DNS servers
-
Select this checkbox to require the monitoring tool to monitor that DNS services are running on their respective servers.
- Monitor that DHCP is running on the managed DHCP servers
- Select this checkbox to require the monitoring tool to monitor that DHCP services are running on their respective servers.
- Interval to monitor servers (in minutes)
- Enter an appropriate interval for monitoring servers, in minutes.
