To use a DNS/DHCP Server with Address Manager, you must add the server to the Address Manager configuration.
This involves providing information in the Add Server page, and then connecting to the server, or using the addServer method. A successful connection places the DNS/DHCP Server under the control of Address Manager and disables the native DNS/DHCP Server command server agent. Then, the server is no longer managed through the DNS/DHCP Server Management Console and it responds only to commands from Address Manager, where you can deploy services to the servers using deployment roles and server options.
If you wish to create and configure server objects before making the actual servers available, you can add the servers without connecting them, through either the Address Manager user interface or the API. The method described here adds the server to an Address Manager configuration only, and does not connect to the server.
Before deploying a configuration, you must connect to servers using the addServer method or using the Address Manager web interface. For more information about connecting to existing servers using the Address Manager web interface, refer to Adding DNS/DHCP Servers to Address Manager in the Address Manager Adminstration Guide.
