When you create a new Server Batch, you must manually add all Servers to the batch.

  1. Click the Dashboard tab within the BlueCat Server Update Services workflow.

  2. Click the New button (the plus symbol) and click Create New Batch.

The Create New Server Batch screen appears.

  3. In Batch Name, enter the name of the new Server Batch.

  4. Under Select Servers From Available Server List, click the Select button. A list of DNS/DHCP Servers appear.

    • Select the checkbox next to one or more DNS/DHCP Servers.

    • For each server, specify the Authentication Method.

      • To authenticate a server with a standard username and password, select Password in its row.

If you set up Global SSH User Account credentials, the Username and Password fields are filled in automatically. To use different SSH credentials, manually enter the Username and Password.

      • To choose from a previously-configured set of Private SSH keys, select SSH Key in its row, then select the SSH Key from the list available.

    • (Optional) Click Test SSH to verify that the SSH credentials entered in the Username and Password field are valid and that BlueCat Server Update Services can successfully connect to the selected DNS/DHCP Servers.

    • Click Proceed to add the selected DNS/DHCP Servers to a Server Batch.

Each server must have either a configured Username and Password or a selected SSH Key.

  5. In Customization Options, decide what you want BSUS to do with the customization package associated with the server batch right now.

    • To install the server's customization package onto each target server right now, select the Install only check box.

    • To also run the customization package on the server with the restore option (customize.sh -r) after it is installed right now, also select the Install and Apply checkbox.

Tip: To run a customization package during a scheduled update, tick the Apply checkbox when scheduling the update.
  6. In Select Customization, select the customization package that you want to associate with the Server Batch. You can select from any package that was imported into BSUS.

Customization packages let you perform custom steps before and after an update, so that you can preserve information not directly handled by BSUS. For more details on customization packages, see Upgrade Customization packages.

  7. In the Configuration Templates section, select the configuration templates that you want to assign to the Server Batch. You can select multiple templates, though each individual server can only use one of them.

Configuration templates let you assign a customized default set of settings for servers. After you add Configuration Templates to a Server Batch, you can assign a specific template to each server within that batch. For more details, see Assigning a Configuration Template to a Server or Server Batch.

For more details on Configuration Templates in general, see Configuration Templates.

  8. Under Reorder Servers List, drag the name of the servers to reorder the list of DNS/DHCP Servers.

  9. Click Finish to save the Server Batch configuration.
