BlueCat Server Update Services (BSUS) manages user access through Address Manager user groups. After installing BSUS, you must set up these user groups in Address Manager so that you can assign appropriate permissions for using BSUS.

Note:
  • The user group assigned as the BSUS Administrator group is automatically given access to all BSUS functionality and all Server Batches. For more details on the BSUS Administrator group, see Managing BSUS Access Rights.

  • The user group assigned as the BSUS Administrator group cannot have a name with a slash (/) character.

In general, you need to do the following:

  • Within Address Manager, make sure that the user groups for users who will use BSUS have at least Default Access Rights. You can either use existing Address Manager user groups, or create new ones specifically for working with BSUS.

  • Within BSUS, add BSUS access rights to those user groups as needed.
Note: The user group assigned as the BSUS Administrator group is automatically given access to all BSUS functionality and all Server Batches. (It still needs Default Access Rights in Address Manager though.) For more details on the BSUS Administrator group, see Managing BSUS Access Rights.

To add default access rights to a user group in Address Manager:

User groups that are to work with BSUS will need to add Default Access Rights in Address Manager. Adding Default Access Rights makes sure that members of that group have access to Address Manager resources that BSUS needs when managing and scheduling updates.

  1. In Address Manager, open the Default Access Rights page. (Click the Administration tab, then click Access Right Settings under User Management, and then click Default Access Rights.

  2. In the Default Access Rights page, in the Fields section, click the Add Access Right button (the plus symbol).

  3. In Users and Groups, for each user group that you want to use for bsus, select the group and click Add.

  4. When you're done, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Add.

To add BSUS access rights to a group in BlueCat Server Update Services:

Note: The user group assigned as the BSUS Administrator group is automatically given access to all BSUS functionality and all Server Batches.
  1. In BlueCat Server Update Services, open the Access Right Settings window. (Click the Administration tab, then click Access Right Settings.)

  2. In the Access Right Settings page, click the Add Access Right button (the plus symbol).

  3. In the Add Access Right page, do the following:
    • Select the user group to which you want to add BSUS rights.

Note: Any user group assigned to a batch in BSUS (including the BSUS Administrator group BSUS) cannot have a name with a slash (/) character.
    • Under Batches, click to select the check boxes next to the batches that users in those groups will be allowed to work with. Those users will be able to modify and schedule those server batches.

When you're done, click the Add button.
