By configuring a DNS Edge service point on a supported DNS/DHCP Server
appliance, you can enable your existing hardware to streamline network operations and
take advantage of enhanced DNS, providing better visibility and control. Service point
functionality (such as policy application, threat evaluation, and DNS event logging) can
all be applied to the DNS client traffic directed to the service point's IPv4 address.
Note: VMware
ESX/ESXi
DNS Edge service point on DNS/DHCP Server is now also supported on VMware ESX/ESXi v7.0/6.7.
Note: To apply service point
functionality, you must direct the DNS client traffic to the service point IP.
Configuring a DNS Edge service point does not affect existing DNS/DHCP Server appliance functionality—all of the functions in the DNS/DHCP Server appliance remain available.
Important: BlueCat strongly recommends that you work
with BlueCat Customer Care when configuring this feature.
Attention: This service cannot be configured on DNS/DHCP Servers that are
already operating in an existing xHA pair. If you would like to configure the DNS Edge
service point on an xHA pair, you must configure the DNS Edge service point on each
DNS/DHCP Server and then create the xHA pair. For more information, refer to Enabling a DNS Edge Service Point v3 in a HA setup.
