HA Failover

In the event of a HA Failover, the service point on the Active node would transparently start to process the incoming DNSv4 queries. When the passive node becomes active, the service point IPv4 address migrates allowing the passive node to process incoming queries.

Breaking the service point enabled HA pair

When the HA pair breaks:
  • The service point continues to run on both nodes, and is bound to listen to incoming traffic on the service point IPv4.
  • The Active node will continue to process incoming DNS queries successfully.
  • Since the service point IPv4 address was floating between the Active and Passive nodes, and attached only as an additional IPv4 address to the Active node, the Passive node will not be available to process DNS queries. To retain the service point functionality on the Passive node when the HA pair breaks, you must disable the service point and re-enable it accordingly. For more information, refer to Configuring a DNS Edge Service Point v3 instance.

Repairing the service point enabled HA pair

To repair a service point enabled HA pair, you must perform the following:
  1. Break the pair.
  2. Obtain the new server under Address Manager control.
  3. Configure the service point on the new server with an identical service point configuration that was attached to the servers belonging to the former HA pair.
Note: The identical service point configuration has the same DNS Edge URL, site ID, service point IPv4 as the servers belonging to the former HA pair.
    Note: Proxy Settings

If the proxy settings are configured, the proxy host, port, and user settings must be identical.

  4. Ensure that the server that will act as the Active server in the new HA pair is set up with the service point IPv4 address as an additional IPv4 address on the service interface.
  5. Recreate the pair with the new server.

Disabling the service point enabled HA pair

If you wish to disable the service point on a HA pair, you must first break the pair before disabling the service point on each individual server and then recreate the HA pair.
