You must define your device types before using them in a configuration.
To create a device type or subtype, and to view device details:
- Select the Groups tab. Tabs remember the page on which you last worked, so select the tab again to ensure you're on the Groups page.
- Click the Device Types tab.

Choose one of the following tasks:
- To create a top-level device type:
- Under Device Types, click New.
- Under Device Type, enter a descriptive name for the device type in the Name field.
- Under Change Control, add comments, if required.
- Click Add or click Add Next to add another device type.
- To create a device subtype:
- Under Device Types, click the name of a device type.
- Under Device Subtypes, click New.
- Under Device Subtype, enter a descriptive name for the device subtype in the Name field.
- Under Change Control, add comments, if required.
- Click Add or click Add Next to add another device type.
- To view device type details:
- under Device Types, click a device type.
The Device Type page contains the following tabs:
- Details—provides information about a device type, including object ID and associated tags and access rights.
- Device Subtype—lists subtypes associated with the current device and lets you add new device subtypes or delete existing device subtypes.
- Linked Devices—lists network devices to which the device type, or any device subtypes.
- Click the Details tab to view device type details.
- under Device Types, click a device type.
