Add or edit a listener interface (listener) to the BIG-IP DNS Server that will be used to listen for DNS NOTIFY messages from the primary DNS server.

The BIG-IP DNS Server listens for notifications of zone transfers from the primary DNS server via a listener interface. F5 customers can configure a listener using the Published interface functionality in Address Manager.

To add or edit a listener interface:

  1. From the configuration drop-down menu, select a configuration.
  2. Select the Servers tab. Tabs remember the page you last worked on, so select the tab again to ensure you're on the Configuration information page.
  3. Under Server, click a BIG-IP DNS Server. The server’s Details tab opens.
  4. Under Interfaces, click New.
  5. Under Interface, set the following server interface parameters:
    • Type—indicates the function of the server interface. Published is the only option available.
    • Hostname—type Listener. An FQDN isn't required.
    • Primary Address—type the IPv4 or IPv6 address for the Listener interface. The IP address of the listener should be able to communicate with the Self IP of the BIG-IP DNS server.
  6. Under Change Control, add comments, if required.
  7. Click Add or Update.
