Customers using Dedicated Management can also use xHA with VLAN interfaces. This configuration will include two Virtual IP addresses and four Private IP addresses: one VIP for the service interface configured with the Primary Service IP address and one VIP for the management interface (eth2); and Private IP addresses on the service interface and management interface of each node.
Important:
  • The VIP on the management interface maintains communication between Address Manager and the Active node in the xHA pair.
  • The PIPs on the service interface of each node must be on the same subnet.
  • The PIPs on the management interface of each node must be on the same subnet but it must be a different subnet than the PIPs on the service interface.

Primary Service IP address on eth0

If you wish to use xHA with VLAN interfaces and Dedicated Management and keep the Primary Service IP address on the eth0 interface, complete the following:
  1. From the DNS/DHCP Server Administration Console of each server, enable Dedicated Management and assign an IP address to the management interface (eth2) and the service interface (eth0). Ensure that the Primary Service IP address is on the service interface (eth0).
  2. From the Address Manager user interface, add each server using the IP address on the management interface (eth2).
Important: Do not add VLAN interfaces to the individual DNS/DHCP Servers before creating the xHA pair. Any VLAN interface configurations on the Passive node will be overwritten by the VLAN configurations of the Active node when creating xHA.
  3. Create xHA.
  4. Add VLAN interfaces to the xHA pair from the Address Manager user interface (Servers > xHA-pair-name> Service Configuration > Interfaces).

Primary Service IP address on a VLAN interface

If you wish to use xHA with VLAN interfaces and Dedicated Management but change the Primary Service IP address to a VLAN interface, complete the following:
Note: If necessary, remove managed DNS/DHCP Servers from Address Manager control prior to performing the following procedure.
  1. From the DNS/DHCP Server Administration Console of each node, enable Dedicated Management and assign an IP address to the management interface (eth2).
  2. Create one VLAN interface and assign it an IP address. Set this IP address as the Primary Service IP address.
    Note:
  3. Add/replace each node in Address Manager using the IP address on the management interface (eth2).
Attention: If replacing servers that were previously under Address Manager control, you will need to reset services from the Replace Server page. This is as a result of changing the service interface from eth0 to a VLAN interface.
  4. Create xHA.
  5. Add VLAN interfaces to the xHA pair from the Address Manager user interface.
