Configuring DHCP failover begins by assigning two DHCP deployment roles to the same IP block or network.

Attention: If you configure a DHCPv4 Raw option on a DHCPv4 range, the DHCPv4 Raw option is only deployed on the Primary server in DHCP Failover. To ensure that the DHCPv4 Raw option is also configured on the Secondary server, you must configure a second DHCPv4 Raw option on the DHCPv4 range and deploy the option to the Secondary server.

To configure failover deployment roles:

  1. From the configuration drop-down menu, select a configuration.
  2. Select the IP Space tab. Tabs remember the page you last worked on, so select the tab again to ensure you're on the Configuration information page.
  3. Under IPv4 Blocks, navigate to the IPv4 block or IPv4 network containing the DHCP failover pools.
  4. Click the Deployment Roles tab.
  5. Under Deployment Roles, click New and select DHCP Role.
  6. From the Type drop-down list, select Primary.
  7. Click Select Server Interface.
    1. Under Servers, click a server name or xHA pair.
    2. Under Server Interfaces, select the server interface and click Add. If necessary, click Up to return to the list of servers.
The selected server interface appears in the Server Interface section and a new Failover Configuration section also appears. If necessary, click Remove to delete the server and start again. The Failover Configuration section doesn't appear when adding a DHCPv6 deployment role.
  8. Under Failover Configuration, click Select Secondary Server Interface to add a secondary server for failover.
    1. Under Servers, click the server name or xHA pair.
    2. Under Server Interfaces, select the server interface and click Add. If necessary, click Up to return to the list of servers.
The selected server interface appears in the Secondary Server Interface section. If necessary, click Remove to delete the server and start again.
  9. Under Change Control, add comments, if required.
  10. Click Add.
